The right to stand for election But in 2025, Inclusion Europe found that in 14 countries<\/strong> People with intellectual disabilities Nothing about us without us.<\/p>\n The right to live in the community But many people with intellectual disabilities In 2025, Inclusion Europe found that at least 1.1 million people<\/strong> Inclusion Europe also found that more than 37.000 people<\/strong> These numbers may be even higher, Institutions must close. The right to good support Many adults still live with their families Families often must provide support alone. People need good community-based support, such as:<\/p>\n Support must fit the person. The right to work and keep support But many people with intellectual disabilities In 2025, Inclusion Europe found that in 29 countries<\/strong> In 21 countries<\/strong>, people with intellectual disabilities The right to inclusive education But many children with intellectual disabilities In 2025, Inclusion Europe found that at least 640.000 children<\/strong> Over 24.000 children<\/strong> with intellectual disabilities This must change. Everyone has the right to have relationships. People with intellectual disabilities are sometimes treated like children. People with intellectual disabilities have the right to love The right to have a family<\/strong><\/span> Some people with intellectual disabilities are told Some parents with intellectual disabilities do not get Sometimes families are separated This is not fair. People with disabilities have the same right to family life Culture is part of life. People with intellectual disabilities should not only watch culture. Culture must be accessible.<\/p>\n This means:<\/p>\n Culture helps people feel included. Culture belongs to everyone.<\/p>\n The right to sport and free time Sport is good for health. But many people with intellectual disabilities This must change. Everyone has the right to enjoy life.<\/p>\n Why we ask you to sign<\/strong> We want a Europe where:<\/p>\n By signing this commitment, You say that inclusion means the whole life of a person. Everyone should get accessible information about elections.

<\/strong>People with intellectual disabilities
should not only vote.
<\/strong>They should also be able to stand for election
and become decision-makers.<\/p>\n
people with intellectual disabilities
are restricted from standing for election.
This must change.<\/p>\n
must be part of democracy.<\/p>\n
<\/strong>Every person has the right to live in the community.
<\/strong>People should be able to choose:<\/p>\n\n
still live in institutions.<\/p>\n
with intellectual disabilities in Europe
live in segregated care institutions
with more than 10 people living together.<\/p>\n
with intellectual disabilities
are placed in psychiatric hospitals.<\/p>\n
because some countries do not have full information.<\/p>\n
People must get support to live in the community.<\/p>\n
<\/strong>Many people with intellectual disabilities
do not get the support they need.<\/p>\n
because there is not enough support to live independently.<\/p>\n
This is not fair for the person.
It is also not fair for families.<\/p>\n\n
Support must not be the same for everyone.<\/p>\n
<\/strong>Work is important.
<\/strong>Work can help people have money, friends,
purpose and independence.<\/p>\n
do not have a job on the open labour market.<\/p>\n
few or no people with intellectual disabilities
work on the open labour market.<\/p>\n
risk losing their disability benefits
when they earn their own salary.
This is wrong.
People should not be punished for working.
Work should make life better, not harder.<\/p>\n
<\/strong>Children with intellectual disabilities
should learn together with other children.
<\/strong>They should go to their local school.
<\/strong>They should get the support they need.<\/p>\n

Inclusive education is good for everyone.
It teaches respect, friendship and equality.<\/p>\nThe right to relationships<\/strong><\/h3>\n
This includes:<\/p>\n\n
Some people think they should not have a partner.
Some people do not get privacy.
Some people do not get support to understand relationships.
This is wrong.<\/p>\n
and to be loved.
They have the right to choose who is important in their life.
They have the right to information about relationships
in a way they can understand.
They have the right to support,
but other people must respect their choices.<\/p>\n
<\/strong>People with intellectual disabilities have the right to family life.
<\/strong>This means they can:<\/p>\n\n
they cannot be parents.<\/p>\n
the support they need.<\/p>\n
because there is not enough support.<\/p>\n
Parents with intellectual disabilities should get support
to care for their children.
Children should not be taken away
only because their parent has a disability.
Families must get support early,
before problems become too big.<\/p>\n
as everyone else.<\/p>\nThe right to culture<\/strong><\/h3>\n
Culture means many things, for example:<\/p>\n\n
They should also create culture.
They should be artists, actors, writers, dancers, musicians and performers.<\/p>\n\n
Culture helps people express who they are.<\/p>\n
<\/strong>Sport and free time are also important.
People with intellectual disabilities have the right to:<\/p>\n\n
Sport also helps people meet others
and feel part of the community.<\/p>\n
cannot join sports and free-time activities.
This can happen because:<\/p>\n\n
Sports clubs, cultural organisations and communities
must welcome people with intellectual disabilities.
They must provide support and accessible information.<\/p>\n
<\/strong>We ask organisations and individuals to sign this commitment
because things must change now.<\/p>\n\n

Not only school.
Not only work.
Not only services.
Inclusion means living, loving, deciding,
creating, playing, belonging
